California law requires that all adopted dogs and cats be spayed or neutered before leaving our Animal Care Center. At this time, adoptions are scheduled by appointment. While a limited number of walk-up appointments may be available, visitors are encouraged to call and discuss their adoption needs with staff prior to visiting the OC Animal Care shelter in order to streamline their experience.
Appointment-based adoptions improve the shelter experience for our animal guests and promote human safety, so that we are able to maintain the staff necessary to continue to care for animals during their stay at the shelter. Adoption appointments for dogs are animal-specific so that a visitor can meet with a specific dog. Adoption appointments for cats and other animals are generalized and made to allow the potential adopter to see the animals, of the desired species, available at OC Animal Care on the day of the appointment and to visit with a select few in order to make an adoption decision. If you see a cat or other animal on the website that you are interested in visiting with during your appointment, provide staff with the name and/or Pet ID listed, and they can provide information on whether or not that animal is still available.
We at OC Animal Care love all breeds. We understand that visitors may search for a lost or forever pet based on their appearance or a 'looks like' breed. Any description of pets with respect to breed is solely based on visual appearance. The actual breed of any pet may be different than its 'looks like' designation. OC Animal Care makes neither a guarantee nor representation as to the true breed of any pet nor any connection between a described breed and a pet's temperament.
